Hello and Welcome to A Picky Family of Food Critics.
We live in Hampton Roads (We will be commenting on places in all 7 cities... plus a few out of state ventures). Simply stated we are a family of very picky, critical eaters. This blog will showcase our feelings for not only the resturants, but the events, malls, stores and other local venues. This blog was thought up while sitting around a resturant table discussing the food that was delivered.
A small introduction to each of the members of the Family both the main members and those who will occassionally enter their opinons.
Main Picky People:
Foodie Picky - I will be the main stenographer for the Picky Family. I have been cooking since I was old enough to not burn myself in the kitchen and now that I am somewhere in my 20s it has become a way of life for me. Not so much picky as I want my food to taste, look and smell right. If one of those attributes is not quite right the whole meal may be set off for me. I don't like olives, spicy peppers, really spicy foods, or green beans. Irrational dislike of green beans due to Cheftastic getting them really cheap at base and feeding them to us every night for almost 2 months. I am searching for the best comfort food in town.
Cheftastic Picky - Our Matriarch, in her 50s. The main cook for the family now that myself and Color Conscious have either moved out or gone to college. Cooking and food are family traditions that desserve as much respect as you can give them. This is where most of the Picky-ness starts. Eats and cooks pretty much everything.
Color Conscious Picky - Our college aged Picky. As her name states there are certain colors of food that she prefers not to eat. Mainly the color purple. She is addicted to sweet tea (good old fashioned, made with simple sugar, sweet tea).
Chief Picky - Our Patriarch. Growing up meals were like shit on a shingle... so he grew up without a Picky stomach. Slowly, since his marriage to a Foodie, he has begun to prefect his Picky-ness. His favorite foods include steak, red wine and seafood. He is scouring Tidewater for the perfect Fish Tacos.
Junior Picky - The quintessential member of the Picky family. At fifteen his prefered meals consist of chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, cereal and ice cream. A disgrace to being raised in Italy the boy prefers his pastas plain, no sauce of any kind... except for maybe ketchup.
All American Picky - Married into the Picky Family. Prefers not to eat fruit, especially cold fruit, mushrooms, cheesy peas, and most cold food. Favorite foods include chicken and shrimp scampi, Blue Moon Beer and Pizza. He is a whiz at cooking desserts.
The Distant Picky People:
Barbie Picky - All American Picky's sister. She occassionally dines with our family. Like Junior she is a Picky through and through.
Uncle Diet Picky - A very health conscious Picky. This Uncle has been friends with Chief since they were young and on the ship together. Fresh caught or wild seafood (not farm raised), free range chicken, no horomones for any meat, fresh fruits and veggies, and glass over plastic. Confuses and stumps waitstaff by asking about where food comes from. Refuses to eat fast food, other than pizza on occassion. Does not accompany us on all ventures.
Uncle Far Away Picky - A wino with great taste. This Uncle has been around since Italy. he no longer lives in town, so his opinions and comments will be few and far between. Currently residing in NOVA.
